Creative Curriculum
We work hard to ensure that the curriculum offered to our children at St. Martin’s is not only fun and enjoyable but that it also leads to children achieving their full academic potential.
We have recently redesigned the way we deliver the curriculum to ensure that it best suits the needs of the children. We maintain our statutory duty to deliver the National Curriculum and use the revised primary frameworks for English and Maths teaching, but we also value creativity and our curriculum is designed around the interests of the children focusing on topics they have chosen.
We believe that the curriculum subjects should be linked so that learning becomes more purposeful and meaningful for children. Learning takes place through whole school and year group topics and themes. The skills in Mathematics, Reading, Writing and ICT are used throughout the curriculum.
There are good links between subjects with IT being used across the curriculum and themes being introduced throughout the school year. English and maths are the key focus for all parts of the curriculum, with a view to pupils making outstanding progress in both areas.
National testing and assessment takes place at the end of Years 2 and 6. In addition to this, teachers make regular and on-going assessments of children's achievements which are reported to parents twice a year.
