Year 4

Welcome to Year 4.

Our class teachers this year are Mrs Jones in 4J plus Miss Robinson in 4R. Also assisting in the classroom are Mrs Adams, Mrs Lamputt and Ms Marlow.

Another year starts: there is lots of excitement around and new beginnings. We are embracing the new curriculum brought in by the current government and are planning lots of fun units of work for the children to get involved with. The Curriculum map below hopefully helps to show what we are doing in each curriculum area and how it all fits together.

It was good to meet with those who came to the meeting at the beginning of the term where we set out expectations and hopes. Once again, many thanks for all of your continued support with your child’s reading; it really does make a difference and can be seen in what they are doing in the classroom already.

In year 4 this term we will be looking at Chocolate! Of course some making and testing of chocolate will be undertaken to ensure it tastes ok! We very much look forward to seeing the geography, science and history of chocolate too and will look at the Aztecs and Mayan empires in this topic.

We will also base our Literacy work around Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ as we look to write fictional stories.

‘Roald Dahl Week’ has been the focus of our back to school week after Christmas and year 4 have looked at ‘Georges Marvellous Medicine’ as our study book. The children wrote instructions of how to make their own marvellous concoctions and mastering the art of measuring in Maths!

We will continue to swim this half term. 4J on Wednesday afternoons and 4HR on Friday afternoons. This will end at half term.

PE will be on Tuesday afternoons. Fitness and a variety of skill work will be the focus.

Lastly, the Year 4 residential will take place after half term on 25th – 27th March.  Meetings with parents and children will take place in the weeks leading up to the trip so that we are all ready! If you would like to take a closer look please click the Pioneer icon below.

Here is some general information that you may find useful:

We do PE on a Tuesday and Friday, PE is both in and outside during the autumn term. If PE kits can be left in school we would very much appreciate it too as we may well change the day if weather is favourable.

We have our spelling test on a Friday and spelling, maths and any other homework will be set on Friday, to be handed in on a Monday.

The children can earn lots of team points for reading regularly and handing in our homework on time.

The house teams that the children belong to are: Dinedor, Dinmore, Callow and Aconbury.

Mrs Jones and Miss Robinson.
