Year 6

Our topic in year 6 this term is The Hobbit.

We will be writing diary entries, poems, instructions and riddles. The Hobbit was written by JRR Tolkien and we will be looking at his life and carrying out some research looking at what inspired him to write and where he got his ideas from.

This will encourage us to become creative writers ourselves. The topic will have a geography focus as we look at maps of Middle Earth and compare with maps of Hereford. This links well with maths as we can study co-ordinates and plot points on a map. We are looking forward to creating Hobbit Homes and we would like to finish the term with a Hobbit Day.

This unit of work inspires the children to write and there are plenty of opportunities for drama and creative arts. We have a dance specialist coming in to work with the children every Friday afternoon. Our PE is on a Thursday afternoon.

Please make sure children bring in their PE kits every week for Thursday and Friday PE sessions.

SATs is drawing closer and we would ask that all children regularly bring in their homework on a Monday and learn their spellings.

This support from home will really help to encourage the children.

Many thanks
